Healing Hands Helping Heroes: Honoring Those Who Give
One day every year our country pauses to take notice of those who gave and those who continue to give every day to protect our freedoms despite the costs to themselves.
On November 10th, The Association of periOperative Nurses (AORN) and REBOOT Combat Recovery partnered for the 2nd Annual Healing Hands Helping Heroes event. The star-studded night included performances by special guests, ACM nominated country duo, Halfway to Hazard and Grammy Award Winner, John Berry. The funds raised from the night will benefit men and women in the military and veterans as well as the continuing education for nurses in Middle Tennessee. LEGACY Consulting, PR & Events was honored to produce the auction and event benefiting such worthy causes.
The Rosewall was simply elegant as the candlelight flickered off the gold, silver and bronze gourds decorating the tables. Guests began trickling into the venue and headed to the bar, where they enjoyed “The Hero”. Heroes Vodka graciously donated their products for the specialty cocktail of the evening. Hugging the outside of the raised bar were featured items and once-in-a-lifetime packages enticing guests to come and bid. Among the items were a signed Peyton Manning helmet, a handmade quilt by a former perioperative nurse, a trip to play in St. Andrews and tickets to a 2017 Jason Aldean concert!
As the program began, guests heard from Cindy Kilgore, President of AORN, who awared the Nurse of the Year Award to Amanda Edmonson. Evan Owens of REBOOT had the opportunity to introduce Bryan Flannery. Flannery is a REBOOT member who gave a touching testimony about the incredible services and impact the non-profit provides for veterans like himself.
The speaking wrapped up as Halfway to Hazard struck a chord with the audience and opened for Grammy award winner, John Berry. As Berry began singing his last song, the crowd silenced. The sounds of a haunting rendition of the national anthem rang through the dimly-lit room, drawing hands to hearts and taking the breath away from everyone in the room. On the eve of Veteran’s day, those words gave power to the room and completed the evening.
“O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the freeand the home of the brave.”
AORN is a non-profit organization and membership association that promotes safety and optimal outcomes by providing practice support and professional development opportunities to perioperative nurses. REBOOT was a natural partner: founded in 2011 by a licensed occupational therapist specializing in traumatic brain injury and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), REBOOT exists to address the overlooked spiritual aspects of combat trauma. The proceeds from the event went to both organizations.
